Gunn Shots 2010

Mary Lindsay: 2010 began in a big way for Mary Lindsay. . .Slater Jackson proposed to her in January! This began an exciting six months of planning a wedding with the man of her dreams! They somehow found time amidst the planning to be Section Leaders for life groups in their church’s college ministry, help lead over 600 college students on a mission trip to Edinburg, TX, and to graduate from Baylor University. Mary Lindsay graduated in sociology, and Slater’s degree is in business administration in real estate and entrepreneurship. They were married on July 24 in a beautiful garden ceremony at the Villa de Felicita in Tyler, Texas. Her daddy got to walk her down the aisle and perform the ceremony (no, he did not cry at all-ha), Lydia was her matron of honor, Annalise was her maid of honor, and Frank III was a groomsman. Her granddad, Dr. Frank Gunn, Sr., led them in a special communion. It was a perfect day! Her Aunt Jennifer described it as a wedding, revival, and family reunion all rolled up into one event! They celebrated with a honeymoon to Cancun, and then returned to a lovely reception hosted by the staff wives at our church in Shreveport. Now, they are settled in their new apartment in Waco, Texas. Slater is a sales representative for Dixie Paper Company, and Mary Lindsay is working at Baylor as their Master of Social Work Admissions Coordinator and Global Mission Leadership Project Manager. We love our new son-in-law!

Frank: Frank headed back to Hawaii after Christmas to continue serving on staff with YWAM (Youth With A Mission) in Honolulu. In April, we received one of those phone calls you never want to receive in which we learned that he had been injured in a skateboarding accident. He lacerated his kidney and spent several days in the hospital. His dad likes to say that he won the rock/paper/scissors game, and he got to be the parent that traveled to Hawaii to be with Frank in the hospital! He flew out Easter Sunday and stayed for eleven days to insure that Frank took it easy and allowed his kidney to heal (or so Lydia thought). Several months later, he fessed up and showed her pictures of a little snorkeling adventure they went on; she was not a happy camper! Thank the Lord, Frank healed completely and continued at YWAM as a Biblical Studies student. He flew home for the wedding, moved to Waco in the fall, then moved back to Hawaii in November. Frank fell in love with freediving and spearfishing, and he is quite good at it! He holds his breath for over four minutes! He currently works as a salesman for Hammerhead Spearguns, and we miss him terribly!

Annalise: Annalise turned 16 in January! At her birthday party, we surprised her with a mustang that we purchased from her cousin Kelsey. The mustang was affectionately dubbed “Strawberry Sizzle”! Unfortunately, Strawberry Sizzle was only a part of the family for less than six months when someone pulled out in front of her, and the Sizzle was totaled (no injuries to anyone). We replaced it with a Jeep Liberty “Libby,” so Annalise has had two cars in 2010! She tried out for a school play, and got a part in the musical Funny Girl. Her summer was busy with church camp, choir/mission trip to San Francisco, and the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Seminar (HOBY) in Baton Rouge. She was chosen through an interview process to represent C.E. Byrd High School at HOBY, and out of 122 students, she was one of the ten semi-finalists selected to represent Louisiana at the World Leadership Congress. Senate Resolution No. 133 was drafted in her honor during the 2010 Regular Senate Session commending Annalise for the pride and honor she brought to her family, friends, community, and state! She loves being involved in student ministry at church, serving as a Student Leader, playing in Stomp (a creative percussion group), and singing in the choir. She works as a math and English tutor at Kumon a couple of afternoons a week, and she loves working with children in our church’s preschool/children’s ministries.
Frank & Lydia: Frank is serving as the Family Minister at Broadmoor Baptist, and he loves his staff team. Frank has taken up tennis, and he, of course, still enjoys deer hunting. He killed an eight point this season on a hunt in Texas at Bill Alexander’s amazing ranch. During that trip, the men were paired with young men from a boy’s home in Houston, and Frank got to guide his new young friend as he shot his first buck! He and Lydia thoroughly enjoy leading a Bible study class of young married couples and working with the Marriage Mentor ministry (devoted to helping marriages in crisis). Lydia is working as a petroleum landman for Ashley Ann Energy, and she loves her job!

We have been so blessed this year by the love of family and friends. Your prayers and concern during Frank III's injury and healing process touched us so profoundly. The love and generosity that you showered on us during Mary Lindsay and Slater’s wedding was overwhelming. The Lord has loved us through you! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and may 2011 be a year in which you place yourself smack dab in the center of the great adventure that God has planned for you!
